I researched existing media product before
I planned my music video, magazine advert and digipack, when I was researching
these I concentrated on the conventions they were using or trying to develop.
After doing all the research I selected the most interesting concepts and
conventions that fit the genre of my music video and were easily applicable to
the genre and style.
The research involved with planning my
digipack was looking at existing products from a similar genre but also introducing
ideas from different styles of genres too, I looked at various artists from
female artists to male artists and how they were styled on the digipack. I
looked at how they were styled because I wanted to have the artist Rosa-Leigh on
the front of my digipack and also inside the digipack and they needed to look
like they were part of the genre, when doing this it meant I researched lots of
female artist album covers that had the artist presented and styled on the
front cover such as ‘Liona Lewis’ ‘Spirit’, Rihanna ‘Loud’, ‘Adele’ ‘21’ and
‘Foxes’ ‘Echo’. I decided that I wanted to do a four-panel digipack because it
looks neat and simple and allowed my audience to concentrate on the detail
involved on the digipack instead of the having a 6 or 8 panel digipack that had
lots of images and writing so they would concentrate less on other elements of
the digipack. I was looking at and researching some of the albums with nature
and natural images on them and I wanted to incorporate that into my digipack
because it looked good with the artist and the style and the genre of the
digipack also because we incorporated nature into our music video which worked
really well with our artist Roas-Leigh.
I didn’t do anything to challenge the
conventions on my digipack because I used frequently used different forms of
well know conventions such as the name of the artist and the title of the album
on the front cover and on the back cover I didn’t challenge the conventions
ether because I placed the bar code in the most common spot on an album or
digipack I also added the song titles, Record Companies Logo and the Copyright
infringement in all the places the would normally be on a CD or digipack if you
were to pick one up and look on the front and back.
On the inside of the digipack I wrote the
song titles and who helped produce them on the far left panel behind the CD so
its noticeable when taken out of the case, this isn’t used very much when
creating digipacks but is used enough not to chalange conventions because I
haven’t changed or done anything different.
The spine also dosent challenge any
conventions because its got the album name, artists name, record companies logo
and the product code down the side all in their “normal” places or where you
would normally find them if you picked one up.
For my magazine advert I researched
existing magazine adverts for different types of artists for the genre that or
music video is based on to see how it needs to look and feel and what style the
artist needs to be.
My magazine advert challenges some
conventions because normal magazine adverts have the artist on the front or
they will have the album cover on the front
of the magazine wheres my magazine has part
of the album blurred in the background and then the album cover on the front
in-between the writing so its still got the nature effect but its also got the
artist on the front cover so they can tell who the artist is and also recognize
the album. I stuck to some conventions such as the record companies logo and
the sponsor also I added the artist name when the album is released and on
platforms such as CD, Vinyl and download, the artists website is also on the
bottom of the magazine advert. The advert is also all in black and whit which
matches the album/digipack where’s other adverts use bright colours or the
bands colours so it stands out in a magazine, but it think black and white will
stand out more in a colour magazine than a colored magazine advert would in a
colored magazine because its different and unconventional.
We had to do a lot of research for our
music video so that we could match the style and genre and please the target
audience. For the research we looked at existing music videos and made a mind
map on all the different aspects of each video such as shots, angles,
locations, style and effects etc., We did this so that we could match all the
best ideas to the style and genre. Some of the inspiration for the music video
came from ‘Givers’ ‘Noche Nada (A lot From Me)’, ‘Lana Del Rey’ ‘Summer Time
Sadness”, ‘Daughter’ ‘Youth’ and many more.
Whilst researching we also used
surveymonkey which is an internet based website where you can create a survey
and post it online for people to find and fill out allowing us to acknowledge
what our target market liked and didn’t like and what they thought would work
well in the music video.
The style of our artist came from many
different places such as existing artists like ‘Lana Del Ray’, ‘Daughter’, ‘HAIM’
etc. but we also wanted a summer styled artist to fit in with the nature that
surrounds her in all the shots we framed. We changed her clothes in different
shots because of a music video we saw by (insert artist and song here), this
was a good idea because nothing was the same and it kept people interested in
the video. This challenged some conventions because normally artists are
wearing the same clothes through the video.
Not a bad response, you just need to be more precise. Look at this though for ideas on how to make it better http://martynhollinsheadlcmedia1213.blogspot.co.uk/2012/12/evaluation-question-1.html
