Technology has played a large part in the
process of making a Music Video, Digipack and Music Magazine because of all the
different types of technology we used.
The first peace
of technology that I used in this process was blogger, blogger is an a website
where you can post images, text, video and various other files almost like a
journal, allowing me to post all my research, feedback, ideas, products etc.
and present it all in a neat and tidy form without it all getting lost. Blogger
is also a way for people to easily access and review my work and tell me if I
need any improvements. This brings me onto how we used technology to help with
our target market research, we used a website called survey monkey that allows
you to create an online survey and post it on the internet for people to find
and fill in so you can have feedback on whatever questions you want answered,
this helped us to find out what our target market wanted in the music video and
which ideas they liked the best. We made a word document with the results of
the survey on so that we could post them on our blog; we have used Microsoft
Word for many different things like this but mostly for the survey we
conducted. We were able to place the Microsoft Word Documents on our blog by
using a website called scribed which allows you to place the document on their
website and then they will give you an embed code that you can put on blogger
so you can view the documents from there, we did this because blogger doesn’t
support graphs and charts that are on the word document.
We used Google to
research images and information and on the Internet we also used Slide Share
that gave us information on ‘Andrew Goodwin’ and his theory’s.
We then created
an Animoto that is a presentation software on the internet to present our ideas
to our peers and gather their thoughts for our music vide and if they could
give us any more ideas that we haven’t thought of.
After we got
feedback on the style and genre we were able to style our artist Rosa-Leigh
around the feedback and we also created a Twitter page for her like a real
artist would have to address their audience and let them know of upcoming
events to advertise themselves and also give some background information on the
artist.
Once we had
learnt all the information from the surveys we also started trying to find a
song that we could use for our music video that suited the genre and style that
didn’t have a music video already or one that had a music video and could be
improved or changed we did this by using iTunes that allowed us to listen too a
wide variety of music and music videos to pick the best song to suit our artist
also. iTunes enabled us to look at the time of the song also which was
necessary because we needed at least a 3:00 minuet song for our music video, we
eventually found our song ‘Afternoon’ by ‘Youth Lagoon’ in the Alternative
section which was the genre our music video is based around.
After we decided
that that was the song we wanted we started drawing up our favorite ideas and
the ideas that the surveys had told us that were best and most liked on post-it
notes so we could rearrange them if we needed, we then took pictures of them
all and placed them on Final Cut Pro to start creating our Animatic to see what
our music video will turn out like. We liked what the animatic showed us so
then we decided what locations we wanted to shoot the shots at were. To do this
we went around taking pictures of locations that we liked and were possible to
use and placed them on flicker and embedded the flicker photos onto our blog.
Then we decided
on the equipment that we were going to be using and this was my Nikon D3100
camera that shoots in HD giving us the best quality for our video, with this
there was also the tripod to keep the camera steady with the still shots. We
also used Holly’s Samsung ES71 to create the vintage shots in the video that
were lower quality to create that effect the other lower quality camera we used
was the iPhone 5 that allowed us to create the mirrored and kaleidoscope
effects for the video that we had discussed and drawn on the animatic. The
other paces of equipment we would be using were and Apple Macbook Pro and an
iMac to edit the footage on Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Pro would help with the
editing and the bubble effects that we have used in our video.
We then uploaded the video to YouTube and embedded it onto our blog so
that people could review the video and tell us if anything needed improving or
re-shooting.
After we had made
our music video we moved onto making a Digipack and a Magazine Advert for our
artist to do this we used Photoshop to help us edit the images, text etc. in
order to create a Digipack and Magazine Advert that fit the style and genre of
our music video. Photoshop is a professional program and with using it you know
that you will end up with a professional looking product that you envisioned.
